Meet the Readers – November Edition

We’re so thrilled to be wrapping up our 2016 schedule with November’s readers, Ryan Krull and Jennifer Goldring:

Ryan Krull‘s work has appeared or is forthcoming in Third Coast, The Rumpus, The Brooklyn Rail, Hobart online, Words in Light and Whiskey Island. He teaches at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and can be found on Twitter @RyanWKrull.

Jennifer Goldring is a writer, photographer, and editor in St. Louis. She has an MFA in creative writing and a BA in economics.  When she isn’t writing, taking photos, or hanging out with her two children she is Managing Editor for december magazine. Her poetry can be found in ALIVE Magazine, Architrave, Tar River Poetry and other publications. Her photography can be found at www.junipertreestudio.com.

Meet the Readers – October Edition

October is here, and the calendar is filling up with apple picking, beer festivals, and Halloween parties. So, don’t forget about us in the mix!

Put us down for Thursday, October 20, 7-9 PM, at Stone Spiral Gallery. We’re so happy to be bringing you Bryan Castille and Lizzy Petersen this round.

Bryan Castille earned his MFA from the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where he won the John C. Schupes Prize for Excellence in Fiction. You can read his fiction in Prairie Schooner, PRISM International, Jonathan: A Journal of Gay Men’s Fiction, New South, and elsewhere. He is the recipient of fellowships and scholarships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, Tin House, Lambda Literary, the New York State Summer Writers’ Institute, and the Upernavik Artists’ Refugium in Upernavik, Greenland. Currently, he teaches composition and rhetoric at St. Louis University and at St. Louis Community College–Meramec and is writing his first novel.

Lizzy Petersen served as the Managing Editor at River Styx for 2 years and now works as the Grant and Outreach Manager. She teaches at Fontbonne University. Previously, she worked as the Poetry Co-Editor of Sycamore Review at Purdue University, where she received her MFA in Poetry. Her work is forthcoming in RHINO and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Meet the Readers – September Edition

We’re looking forward to welcoming you back to Prose|Poem on Thursday, September 15, with our first readers of the season, Angela Mitchell and Jen Tappenden.

Angela Mitchell’s stories have appeared in literary journals and magazines, including Colorado Review, New South, Carve, Midwestern Gothic, and others. Her story, “Animal Lovers,” was the winner of the 2009 Nelligan Prize from Colorado Review; it was given special mention in The Pushcart Prize XXXV, and listed as one of thirty “Distinguished Stories” in the inaugural issue of New Stories from the Midwest. In 2011, she was honored as a MasterMind recipient by the Riverfront Times for her work in the literary arts. Recently, she attended the Sewanee Writers’ Conference as a Tennessee Williams Scholar. Angela holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, as well as an M.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of Arkansas, and a B.A. in English from the University of New Orleans. She is the current director of the St. Louis Writers Workshop.

Jen Tappenden is the founding editor of Architrave Press. She earned an MFA in poetry from the University of Missouri – St. Louis where she also served as the university’s first Poet Laureate. Her poems have appeared in The Baltimore ReviewFlywayCompose and elsewhere. Jen is poetry editor for december magazine, an organizer of both the St. Louis Small Press Expo and UMSL’s Natural Bridge Debut Writers Series as well as an all-out-fool for gears, lead type and thick paper. Her chapbook, Independent City, is forthcoming from Wells College Press  where she will also be a visiting writer to coincide with its release this October.

We missed you this summer. But we’re back with another fantastic season in the works.* In the meantime, save some dates:

All reading events will be at the Stone Spiral Gallery, 2506 Sutton Blvd., from 7-9 PM. Doors to the gallery will open at 7. Stop by beforehand and grab a bite and a drink at the Stone Spiral.
