While we’re on summer break, why not sample some fine reading:
This man, Bob Hicok, writes poems that catches your breath in your throat. His love (?) poems are stunning, but this one gets the job done, too.

It’s summer break for Prose/Poem’s events, but there’s plenty out there to enjoy when it comes to readings:
Here’s a tiny excerpt–the intro and the reason why I was sucked into this novel–from Ann Pathchett‘s State of Wonder.
Last week’s evening with Eve Jones was a delight, particularly since we were treated to some of Eve’s new work. Last month’s event with Maxine Beach and Stef Russell was pretty amazing, as well. We’re going to go ahead and call Prose/Poem’s kick-off a success, if we say so ourselves.
In coming weeks, we’ll post some more photos and Post-it stories/poems from the events.
In the meantime, pencil us in for a few dates after our summer hiatus, won’t you please?
Tentative 2014-2015 season:
We look forward to seeing you when the days grow shorter and the leaves turn… Stay tuned.
Tonight is our interactive evening with poet Eve Jones, presented by Prose/Poem, on Monday, 5/12, 7-9 PM, at the Mud House, 2101 Cherokee St.
This is an after-hours event for the Mud House, so there’ll be no food, but plenty of beveragey-goodness. BYOB, if you like.
If you are looking for food before the event, check out some of these neighborhood favorites:
These are open before and after (until 10 PM):
We’ll see you soon!
There’s still time to send in your response pieces for the Eve Jones reading on Monday night. So, sit right down and that poem or short-short you’ve been working on before you head out for your Saturday night activities, you minx!
E-mail your response piece to sarahkuntzjones at gmail dot com.
Coming up: The sticky note stories, poems, and drawings from the inaugural reading event, including the winning effort from Jonathan Turek.
